January 8, 2013

Dear Members and Friends of the Ulysses S. Grant Association,

I invite you to attend our annual meeting. It is scheduled from May 3-5, 2013 in Georgetown, Ohio in the Kentucky-Ohio region where U.S Grant spent his early years. Working with the local arrangements committee, we have planned an exciting program, which will begin on Friday, May 3, 6 PM, with a reception, a dinner, and main speaker, Dr. Charles Calhoun of East Carolina University, the author of a forthcoming book on the Grant presidency. Registration will take place in the lobby of the Hampton Inn, Maysville, Kentucky that same day from 1 to 5 PM.

Saturday will be a day full of tours and talks. We will visit a variety of Grant sites, have lunch at a historic site, and finish our day with a reception, dinner, and a talk by last year’s John Y. Simon Award winner Frank Scaturro. Sunday, at 7:30 AM, the Board of Directors will hold its annual meeting, and we will end by 10 AM with a discussion on Grant’s status today in popular culture and the latest news from the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library.

Our headquarters hotel will be the Hampton Inn in Maysville, Kentucky. This is a recently built facility which includes a heated indoor swimming pool and a complimentary breakfast. Please make your hotel reservations on your own on internet or by telephone. Be sure to mention the Ulysses S. Grant Association to receive the special group rate of $90.00 plus tax.

Maysville, Kentucky is on the Ohio River about 59 miles south and east of the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The Lexington Kentucky Bluegrass Airport (LEX) is 68 miles southwest of Maysville. Major airlines service both these airports. Please make your plane reservations early.
