2017 Annual Meeting

April 28-30, Washington D.C

Host Hotel: Hyatt Regency Hotel | Register now!

Dear Members and Friends of the Ulysses S. Grant Association,

Please join us for the 54th annual meeting of the Ulysses S. Grant Association, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Washington D.C., Friday April 28 to Sunday April 30, 2017.

Registration will open Friday afternoon, April 28, from 2-4 p.m. at our headquarters hotel. At this time, members may also purchase merchandise.

The formal program will begin with a cash bar reception at the hotel at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and our first speaker, Michelle Cohen, from the office of the Architect of the Capitol. She will tell us about the work done to restore the U.S. Grant Memorial, which is located right behind the U.S. Capitol. This will be a particularly significant talk because the next day the Office of the Architect will host a tour of the monument itself

Saturday’s exciting agenda will begin at 8 a.m. when we board busses at the hotel and drive to the Grant Monument where we will enjoy a program, hosted by the Office of the Architect. This tour will enlarge the insights we already gained from the previous evening. (USGA played an important role in implementing the effort to restore this national treasure.)

After our stay at the Grant Monument, our busses will take us to the Library of Congress, where librarian and fellow USGA member, Michelle Krowl will show us and discuss some of the Grant treasures in this magnificent building. At noon, we will enjoy a boxed lunch and group discussion on the Nucor rooftop patio, hosted by Eileen Bradner, a fellow USGA member from the D.C. area. At around 1:30 p.m., we will enjoy a driving tour of important Grant sites in Washington. This drive will end at our hotel at around 4:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., busses will take us to the Army Navy Club, where we will be hosted by our own president, Frank Williams. At around 6:30 p.m. we will enjoy dinner and a talk by Ron Chernow, the Pulitzer Prize winning author, USGA member, and the author of later to be published biography of U.S. Grant.

On Sunday, we will complete our meeting. The USGA Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 a.m., followed by the general membership meeting at 8:30 a.m. At 9:30, members of the USGA staff at Mississippi State University will discuss the new construction of the USGA headquarters. Although the new 22,000 square foot capacity will not be completed until the fall of 2017, this presentation will provide our members with a good insight into our marvelous new home.

Our hotel headquarters will be the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Capitol Hill which is located less than 5 miles from the Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). at 400 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. The Ulysses S. Grant Association has a block of rooms reserved at a special group rate of $189.00 plus tax. There is plenty of ground transportation from the airport to the hotel, although there is no hotel shuttle. (Parking is available at the hotel at the rate of $56 per day.)

You can register for the meeting on our website: www.usgrantlibrary.org. You may pay online with a credit card or by mail to John F. Marszalek, USGA, P.O. Box 5408, Mississippi State, MS 39762.
